Mosquito Dunks –The Solution to Your Mosquito Problems

Mosquito Dunks are a natural, nontoxic, eco-friendly and biological way to eliminate mosquito larvae from ponds and standing water. The Mosquito Dunk method has been professionally used to eradicate the breeding of mosquitoes for over a decade from stagnant water. The larvae in the water are killed off before they mature into blood-sucking, dangerous adults which can reproduce and further reproduce, creating a health hazard.

The larvicide in the Mosquito Dunks is a bacterium called Bacillus Thuringiensis subspecies Israelensis or BTI. These bacteria are biologically toxic to both the mosquito larvae and the psychodid or black fly larvae by attacking their digestive system. The Mosquito Dunks are made in a way so as to be sustained-released and therefore can last up to thirty days in the treatment area. The great advantage of this product is that it is absolutely harmless to humans, plants and pets, including animals, birds and fish and can even be used in the drinking water bowls. Only mosquito and blackfly larvae are affected. Being totally environment friendly and safe, Mosquito Dunks are easy to use and have a thirty day time release period.

Mosquito Dunks are sold as donut shaped tablets that are usually packaged as six packs. Larger packs of twenty are also available. One dunk is sufficient to treat a hundred square feet of water surface for thirty days or a month. Results are seen within two weeks as the mosquito population diminishes rapidly. Dunks can also be used in roof gutters, old tires, rain barrels, tree holes, decorative ponds, water gardens, birdbaths, fountains, flower pots or anywhere where water can stagnate.

For smaller treatment areas, the dunk can be broken into tiny pieces called cookies. In case the water dries out and the dunk dries with it, it will continue to retain its potency and effectiveness indefinitely. Alternate drying and wetting will not diminish its potency either and will work as soon as it is wet again. The donut shaped dunk allows it to be anchored, tied or staked to prevent it from being washed away.

Mosquito Dunks are designed to float on water, therefore, slowly releasing the BTI bacteria on the surface of the water. This bacterial agent slowly makes its way to the bottom of the water, settling down, where it is ingested by the mosquito larvae as it feeds on the material below. The bacteria act on the digestive system of the larvae, killing them off quickly. The bacteria have no adverse effect on other life forms whether human, plant or animal.

The use of Mosquito Dunks is a safe but effective way to reign in the mosquito population, in and around the house without losing the beauty of a water garden or a pond. Post rain water puddles that can last a couple of days too can be treated to prevent the mosquito population from increasing. Combined with other natural mosquito barrier products, they can make your life completely mosquito free.
